Crews Reference

7 crews ship with agents-fleet. A crew is a named bundle of agents (each a role + optional skills) plus a coordinator role, a default workflow, a messaging topology, and an optional MCP allowlist. Activate one with /crew <name>. Bundled and user crews are always loaded; project .fleet/crews/ are opt-in with --trust-project-skills. save_crew writes project by default (or user), updates the live registry, and does not activate it; use activate_crew separately after user confirmation. After manual edits use reload_registry. See Composition, Authoring crews, and Roles.

Serialized .crew.md schema

save_crew accepts members in its tool input and serializes that array as agents. Canonical files use block-form YAML; inline object entries are not supported by the frontmatter parser.

Serialized fieldTypeRequired / defaultBehavior
namestringRequiredKebab-case for save_crew; must match the .crew.md filename when loaded.
descriptionstringRequired by save_crew; parser default: first body heading or ""One-line summary of the crew.
topology"silent" | "hub" | "mesh"Required by save_crew; parser default: "hub"Runtime-owned worker communication policy; prompt text cannot widen it.
workflowstringRequired by save_crew; parser default: "freeform"Default workflow resolved and validated when the crew activates.
workflowsmap<string, string>Optional; manual file authoring onlyPer-command workflow overrides. save_crew does not currently accept or emit this map.
versionstring or numberSerializer-managed; parser default: "1"Starts at 1 and increments when save_crew overwrites the canonical file.
coordinatorobjectRequiredRequires role; optional model overrides the coordinator role model.
agentsCrewAgent[]At least one required by save_crewWorker roster serialized from the tool input members.
synthesisCrewAgentOptionalFinal synthesis member. Canonical parser fields are role, after, and model.
mcpServersstring[]OptionalCrew-wide MCP allowlist enabled for the coordinator at activation.
Markdown bodyMarkdownOptionalDescriptive content; crew wiring comes from frontmatter.

CrewAgent fields

FieldRequired / defaultBehavior
roleRequiredRegistry role reference. Its agent_type selects the worker runtime permission baseline.
skillsOptional; default []Atomic skills composed into the role prompt; skills cannot grant runtime permissions.
parallelOptional; default falseMarks a member eligible to run with other parallel members.
afterOptional"all" or a list of role names that must complete first.
modelOptionalMember-specific model override.
mcpServersOptionalMember-specific MCP allowlist; does not bypass runtime MCP or permission policy.
nameOptionalDisplay name distinct from the referenced role.

Drafts project documentation

Activation validates coordinator, worker role, skill, and workflow references before updating fleet state. It installs the coordinator persona plus active-crew/workflow overlays, applies the coordinator model override, and enables declared crew MCP servers. activate_crew schedules this swap for the coordinator's next message; /crew <name> is the direct user command. Activating a crew does not rewrite role permission profiles.

save_crew updates the running registry but deliberately does not activate the crew. Manual edits require reload_registry; in-flight workflow runs retain their existing snapshot. Reload reapplies trust, so default-off project crews require --trust-project-skills, AGENTS_FLEET_TRUST_PROJECT_SKILLS=1, or the equivalent config setting. Saving a project crew in one session does not opt future sessions into trust.
